Here we are in August and the summer is in full swing, although the weather in August doesn’t reflect it.
After a heatwave in May and June with temperatures up in the high 30’s C in the shade, July and August has seen cooler tempertures of about 20 C, which is not too bad actually at least it’s possible to go out and about without feeling exhausted from the heat.
The biggest news of the summer has been the Tour de France passing through the village in July, our village was actually listed on the route of the day. Stage 7 was a transit stage from Troyes to Nuits Saint Georges, so nothing dramatic happened and it was stage for the sprinters with Marcel Kittel winning in a photo finish.
The whole area was buzzing with excitement for weeks before, and thankfully they were at a reasonable pace going through the village so we were able to see the faces of the riders instead of flashing by..
Other news , after the late frosts in spring which affected much of the grape vines, the recent rain has been welcome to the wine producers as what grapes there are are getting nice and plump.. the last news I heard was although the yield will be about 50% of a normal year the quality is looking good… so it’s looking like a good year..
Until next time….. take care
